Solidarity vs. Teamwork

What wins the day? Solidarity or Teamwork?

Solidarity: Each member is told which strengths and abilities to apply to a task. The capabilities of all in the group are commandeered and coordinated to bring about the completion of the agenda of the leaders.

At some point, members will become resentful and greater force and coercion will have to be applied to get them to do their part.

When the goal is in sight, beleaguered members will resist the whip cracking of the driven leaders, and the agenda will smash into smithereens.

Teamwork: Each person chooses to bring their individual strengths and abilities to a task. The capabilities of all on the team are willingly contributed and complement one another to bring about the successful completion of an agreed upon agenda.

At some point, members will become tired and encouragement and team depth will have to be applied to keep up momentum.

When the goal is in sight, the joy of individual strength brought together willingly in group effort will spur on the accomplishment of more than all thought possible.

The teachers’ union makes me feel like part of a herd, but I’d rather be on a team.
